Melanotan-1 (MT-1): Research, Benefits & UK Availability
A synthetic analogue of alpha-MSH researched for melanogenesis and photoprotection studies.
Every Peptify Melanotan-1 (MT-1) batch is independently HPLC-tested by Janoshik Analytical (Czech Republic) and ships with the batch-matched Certificate of Analysis.
What is Melanotan-1 (MT-1)?
**Selective pigmentation research.** Melanotan-1 (afamelanotide) is the selective MC1R agonist — a focused-receptor profile that distinguishes it from non-selective melanocortin compounds and the basis for one of the more extensive human-study datasets in synthetic melanocortin literature.
Research has examined eumelanin pathway activity, UV-induced DNA damage models, actinic keratoses, and applications in rare photosensitivity disorders such as erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP). The selectivity profile has been investigated as the basis for reduced off-target activity at MC3R, MC4R, and MC5R in comparative receptor research.

How to Store Melanotan-1 (MT-1)
Unreconstituted (Lyophilised Powder)
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. For long-term storage, keep refrigerated at 2–8°C. Under these conditions, lyophilised peptides can remain stable for up to 24 months. For extended preservation beyond 24 months, store at -20°C in a freezer.
Reconstituted (Mixed with BAC Water)
Once reconstituted with bacteriostatic water, the peptide solution must be refrigerated at 2–8°C. Use within 4–6 weeks for optimal potency. Do not freeze reconstituted peptides as this may degrade the compound.
General Tips
Always keep vials upright to prevent leakage. Avoid repeated temperature fluctuations — do not leave vials out at room temperature for extended periods. Protect from light exposure by storing in the original packaging or a dark container. Label all vials with the reconstitution date.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between MT-1 and MT-2?
MT-1 is a linear analogue of alpha-MSH that primarily targets MC1R for melanogenesis. MT-2 is a cyclic analogue with broader receptor activity.
